Apocalypse (noun): Something disclosed, especially something not previously known or realized: disclosure, exposé, exposure, revelation. Informaleye opener. Seeshow/hide.

So many people are convinced that something big and transformative will happen in 2012. Why not make something happen instead of waiting around for it to happen by itself? That's five years from now. Let us devise a five year plan such that by 2012 we will have fundamentally jumpstarted our intellectual and activist capacities such that we can say that history is following a new direction without exaggeration.

Apocalypticism/Spiritual transformation

The following predictions are theories based upon sources of varying origin and credibility.

[edit]

Fiction

  • In The X-Files, aliens are expected to invade Earth on December 22 and take over the world.
  • In the Doctor Who episode Dalek, a Dalek breaks loose under the Utah salt plains, and plans to kill every living thing on Earth, in this year.
  • In Methuselah's Children and Time Enough for Love by Robert A. Heinlein, mention is made of a crucial meeting of the Howard Families held that year. In both novels, viewpoint character Lazarus Long is asked what happened at this meeting as he is the last living eyewitness; in both novels he declines to answer.
  • The Notion Club Papers will be discovered at Oxford by Mr. Howard Green.
  • Grant Morrison’s The Invisibles concludes, with the Invisibles' "fictional" universe expanding into the meta-context of the "higher universe", possibly our own.
  • On Futurama, the year of the War of 2012, during which comedian/talk-show host Conan O'Brien lost his "freakishly long legs".
  • With the 6th Mayan world beginning, magic returns to the world in an event called "The Awakening" in the pen-and-paper RPG Shadowrun.
  • In the anime series RahXephon, 2012 is the year when Tokyo Jupiter incident occurred, ending a nuclear war between humans and interdimensional invader race of Mu and completely sealing Tokyo off the outside world. The Tokyo Jupiter incident is one of the pivotal points of the series' plot.
  • The Doctor Who episode Fear Her takes place in this year, during the lead-up to the 2012 Olympics.

Interesting Idea

Please keep me informed.

2012

Why not do more than stay informed? Can we all not be part of the five-year planning process? I'm sure we all have concerns for people we love, including ourselves, in this ever evolving world. What are yours? What do you think we can do about it?

I know my personal concerns recently have been mostly economic. I don't have a means to stay afloat in my region without a source of income. So I'm staring another full-time job. I'm selling my precious time and energy for $9.00 an hour. I'm not happy doing this and I stay sane by reminding myself that the extra money I save can be used for whatever my heart desires. Part of my five-year plan is to stay afloat and do it doing something I enjoy.

I definitely agree with this

I definitely agree with this idea. Working to improve things by 2012 instead of worrying that the world will end is a far better use of time. You might want to add some more skeptical links to your list though. http://www.skepdic.com/maya.html
